Beirut, Lebanon — September 21, 2026 — Earlier in September, DiaLeb brought its members and supporters together in Barouk for its 2026 Summer Camp, an annual community initiative supporting people living with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and their families through education, physical activity, psychosocial support, and connection. This year’s camp was held in collaboration with Barouk Municipality, offering participants an opportunity to explore the region while engaging in activities focused on health, community, and well-being.

The day began with a visit to Barouk Municipality, where participants were welcomed by the municipality team and Mayor Dr. Fadi Mahmoud. DiaLeb presented Dr. Mahmoud with a certificate of appreciation in recognition of his cooperation and support for the Summer Camp.

Participants then visited two local health centers, including the Barouk Governmental Primary Health Care Center, where they met with health care teams and learned more about the role of primary health care in the local community. The group also visited a second health center to learn about its services.

At the Barouk Cedars Reserve, participants planted a cedar tree in DiaLeb’s name before setting out on a hike through the cedar trees. The outdoor activities provided an opportunity to stay physically active, enjoy nature, and discover one of Lebanon’s distinctive natural landscapes while promoting environmental awareness.

Throughout the day, professionals including a pharmacist, fitness expert, and nutritionists engaged with participants, offering practical information and guidance relevant to living with T1D. The camp also created space for participants and their families to share experiences, build relationships, and support one another in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

The day concluded with a communal lunch and social and recreational activities that brought DiaLeb members, families, and supporters together.

The Summer Camp also supports several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 5: Gender Equality, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. Through health education, physical activity, community collaboration, and environmental engagement, the program promotes well-being while strengthening connections between individuals, communities, and their environment.

The DiaLeb Summer Camp is part of the organization’s broader commitment to supporting people living with T1D and their families beyond clinical care, creating opportunities to learn, connect, stay active, and experience different parts of Lebanon together.
