In collaboration with the National Volunteer Service Program (NVSP), the Ministry of Social Affairs (MOSA), and the World Bank, DiaLeb completed a project entitled “Empowering Host Communities in Lebanon to better deal with Diabetes”.
40 local volunteers from across Lebanon participated in this project and played a major role in helping us widen our reach and find new methods and ideas in order to continue working towards our mission.
This project included 5 events:
Throughout the awareness events, educational sessions about diabetes and nutrition were given.
~ 2,275 Free blood glucose tests were performed
~ 250 Free HbA1c tests were performed
~ 185 Glucose meters were offered to those affected with diabetes
The mountain climber, Avedis Kalpaklian, joined efforts with the DiaLeb team to highlight the importance of sports in preventing and managing diabetes through a campaign entitled “The Run” in 2016. The challenge was to run 452 km from North to South Lebanon in 8 days only. The project was launched through a community event at Kobayat on October 23, 2016. Then, midway, another event was held at Faraya. Finally, the campaign concluded at Marjaayoun with a third event to welcoming Avedis at the end of his adventure.
At these entire three events, the attendees benefited from educational lectures offered by professionals, free glucose and HbA1C testing and distribution of educational materials. This campaign had extensive media coverage showcasing the TVC to motivate people to perform physical activity and lead a healthy lifestyle.
