DiaLeb held its first university awareness event of 2013 at the Lebanese University, faculty of pedagogy, Rawda. The event was organized in collaboration with Dr. Elie Mekhael and two students (Ms. Olivia Lahhoud and Ms. Lara Ghadban) as part of a project they are planning about diabetes mellitus. The session took place on Wednesday February 13, 2013 between 11h30 and 13h15. Dr. Jackie Maalouf, president of DiaLeb, gave a motivational speech explaining the reasons behind the foundation of the NGO, its mission and objectives. Dr. Maalouf briefed DiaLeb's past activities and future plans targeting diabetes awarness for people affected by the disease and the general public. Miss Layal Al Hanna, our awareness program coordinator/nutritionist, guided an interactive session with a lively discussion about the importance of nutrition and pgysical activity in diabetes prevention. She explained basics about diabetes, types, symptoms and management and explained that moderation and variety are essential elements in our daily meal plan. The session was closed to faculty professors and students and it was followed by a lively Q&A session and free glucose testing sponsored by Accu-Chek.
